RAVENNA, Italy

Compared to Florence or Venice, tourism seems
almost incidental to the life of a city
  with such historic monuments.

Ravenna is a few kilometres inland of the Adriatic
coast ,considered to be a simple place but the
 mosaics are generally acknowledged to
be the crowning achievement of Byzantine art.

Besides the many fabulous churches
the museums have spectacular art
inside as well as outside.

I really enjoyed all the large animal
sculptures.

In the main square of Ravenna you almost
felt like you were on a movie set.
The centre of town is an elegant
open space that was laid out by the
Venetians in the fifteenth century
and has adapted well to the many cafes
and shops that border it.
We were so impressed by how clean
everything was.  People take pride
in there city here and through out Italy.

Wish I could have put one of these
wheels of parmesean in my suitcase.

Best fried zucchini ever!

We were in Ravenna for one night on our
last trip to Italy and we knew it required
more time.  We were happy we went back.
Even a little rain didn't damper our good time.
