Rebecca the creative force behind

SUGARBOO DESIGNS creates products

that remind people of the ones they love

with a lot of whimsy thrown in.

This is a wonderfully simple very

large art print. It measures 3 feet by

6 feet but could be hung or sold as

two pieces.

Everyone loves dogs and this

dancing dog will make you smile.

Elephants are also very prevalent in

the Sugarboo collection, and I really

like the new pink elephant.

This slated elephant is available in

six different colors and says "Love you"

in six different languages.

AIDAN GRAY-ATLANTA

This is what I call a great entrance.

Small tables were a big focus for the new

introductions from AIDAN GRAY HOME.

The Astre and Marlene side table

both have a gold leaf finish and antiqued

mirror tops. Both are small, so will

fit in many locals and also will add

a touch of sophistication to the room.

Percussive side table is a tribute

to percussive instruments and can

easily be relocated whenever you need a little

extra space.

The Cross Hatch is both industrial and delicate.

Eight hand carved wood scrolls are the

focal point to the Colette table. Natural wood

peeks through its chipped cathedral white finish.

This is a real beauty.

The AMERICA collection is a group

of tables with concrete tops that are

made and assembled by AMERICAN artisans.

These table can be ordered with either

a dark or light top.

They have been inspired by French bistro tables

but given a modern twist.

The Blake table comes tall and short

and can be nested together or used separately.

They also can come with a reclaimed

barn wood tops. Some tops may include

cracks, chipped paint, worm holes and other

"perfections" that are inherent in old wood.

The Isaac table has a complex heavy

gauge wire base that is allowed to

rust outdoors before it is entirely sealed.

Combined with the reclaimed barn wood

top gives it a rustic look.

Through out the showroom is a collection

of art work by Texas artist, Carol Benson Cobb.

This is a new and exciting category for

Aidan Gray. Her work adds color, that

does not distract but only enhances.

The pieces have a very calming effect.

was the 23rd Arts Awards of Achievement given

at the Dallas Show. Randal Weeks the owner

and designer of AIDAN GRAY HOME

won PRODUCT DESIGNER OF THE YEAR.

ATLANTA SHOW-DASH & ALBERT

Happy New Years. It has been a busy and crazy

couple of months so I have been away from my

blog, but now I am back.

I never feel like the year has started until I have

been to the Atlanta Gift Show. I just got back and

it was wonderful as usual and a little more

exciting for me with the additional of my two new

lines. I was looking forward to seeing the new

rugs from DASH & ALBERT. I wasn't the least

bit disappointed. The CMA showroom looked

great as usual.

The largest introductions were in the indoor/outdoor

category, this being the fastest growing in the

company. I could not wait to see the new

thicker rope collection that are all solid colors.

This is a first for DASH AND ALBERT,

and I think will open up a whole new market.

The white and Ivory are wonderful, especially

when you realize how easy they are to clean.

Not to worry about that, take them

out in the yard and hose them off.

to coordinate with the solids there are two

new stripes.

and a beautiful light blue

with matching bags and throws

and a dark brown called charcoal

and one of my favorites, platinum that

is in the grey family.

There are also some great color combinations

in the ever popular woven cotton rugs.

Love the brights in the bags. Can't help

but start to think of spring.

If you prefer pastels, these are a nice choice.

Cotton Micro-hooked rugs weren't left out

either. What a great look for a

family room, game room, also for

a contemporary look with sleek

modern furniture

and something a little more traditional

The brindle stripe is very popular

in the tufted wool rugs and I think

this new dusty plum will be a hit.

A VISIT TO ASHEVILLE, N.C.

It is always nice to combine business with

pleasure. John and I did that recently after

going to the High Point furniture show.

We drove to Asheville, N.C. a

beautiful little place set in the

Blue Ridge Mountains.

We have been there before but not for

many years so we thought it was time

to return. We booked ourselves into

one of the many charming B & B's that

the area is known for.

A BED OF ROSES was a good choice,

set on a quite residential street.

Emily and Bill, the owners are fairly

new at this, but you would never know

it, they handle everything like pros.

Emily makes a impressive breakfast

every morning in this great kitchen.

We stayed upstairs in the very cozy

Wilkinson Room.

One of the big attractions in Asheville is

the BILTMORE ESTATES, a fabulous

place to visit but we've been so

decided to take a different path.

Asheville is very artsy, with galleries

of all types. The River Arts District was

exactly what we were looking for.

This is in an area with old brick buildings

converted to artist lofts, surrounded

by park like grounds and little cafes.

I couldn't help thinking of the JUNKGIRLS,

when I saw this fence made from metal

pieces.

John loved this over sized floor lamp.

I was sorry I could not find the artist name.

Artist CYNTHIA POTTER has an adorable

collection of papier mache puppets.

Our next stop was this great looking

building, and as per its name lots of textiles.

Right up my alley.

BARBARA ZARETSKY is a fiber artist and the director of Cloth Fiber Workshop. Originally from the Chicago area, she studied textile design at Northern Illinois University and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2001 she moved to Asheville, became a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Zaretsky has operated BZDesign for over 20 years. In her line of home furnishings and wearable accessories she incorporates organic and sustainable materials.

BARB BUTLER

Fine handwoven fashion accessories, garments and home textiles plus classes for all levels of weavers.

Her things were breath taking, I was sorry

I had not taken more pictures. If you click on

her name you will get to her very

nice web site.

This is an installation that they were

finishing. It took one year to cut all of

the tile pieces for this mural.

Around the downtown area of Asheville

they have some fun sculptures.

Another big attraction of this area

is the Blue Ridge Parkway that

has some of the most spectacular views.

Being from Southern California with

no seasons we knew we were in for

a treat with the fall leaves. People

told us we were there at the perfect time.

The weather was just perfect, as you can tell

from what John is wearing. The following

day it poured.

We ended the day at the GROVE PARK INN.

Built from granite boulders hewn from Sunset Mountain, The Grove Park Inn opened in 1913. At its opening dinner, William Jennings Bryan declared that it had been “built for the ages.” In the decades since it has become one of the South’s most famous and venerable resorts.

We just remembered it was a great place

to be at sunset with a glass of wine and

a fabulous view.

Tis distance lends enchantment to the view,

And robes the mountain in its azure hue.

CHARTREUSE HOME FURNISHINGS

I had the pleasure of visiting

CHARTREUSE last week, a home furnishing

store in Los Alamitos, Ca.

You are immediately impressed with

their displays and wide variety of styles

presented.

Accessories play a big part in this stores

charm. They have been collected from

all over the world. Pieces from Indonesia, India,

Philippines as well as local artists.

I love this Monopoly set with

the over sized games pieces.

The front of store is set up with

different room vignette's that could

be bought and taken home as is.

Their styles go from tropical to cottage,

traditional to modern and many

in between.

They carry a nice range of PINE CONE HILL

showing several bedding sets in the

showroom, all representing a

different aesthectic.

The store continues into a very large open

room that enables them to do larger

displays and fixtures.

The DASH AND ALBERT rug display

is an example of this.

This large sectional shows off well

in this larger room.

The lovely ladies that make all

of these beautiful things happen.

WALKING CHICAGO

When I was in Chicago a couple weeks

back I had a wonderful day to play.

I got up early and just walked around the

city and taking pictures of things that

inspired me. I thought I would share that day.

At the end of the day a glass of Preseco

was just what I needed.

Chicago is a really great walking city,

At the Chicago Casual Furniture show last

week they introducted three collections

that they will be importing to and

stocking in the United States.

The SALT collection is powder coated

with a lightweight aluminium frame. This

is recommended for outdoor use.

The collection is available in five pieces

and two colors, white and brick.

CASUAL FURNITURE SHOW-CHICAGO

The main reason I went to Chicago was for the

Casual Furniture show where

FERMOBUSA was showing.

The best part of being here is seeing

all of the great product in some

colors I have not seen before.

For example the "Sixties Chair",

here it is shown in storm grey

and slate.

and I had only seen it in the

Aubergine and gum

and the Savanna and Lichen

The Luxembourg low chair and low table

in steel grey is very striking and

contemporary.

Even though the Monceau had been

available for a while I had not

seen it in person. This is a really super

looking chair.

It fits right in the middle of the bistro chair

and the Luxembourg chair

Great styling, price point and stack

ability.

The bistro longue in verbena and

the Tom Pouce low table in carrot.

This table could also be used

with the kids bistro chair that you

will see below.

I have to admit that I am not a blue fan but seeing

the new Luxembourg rectangular

table had me think twice about this. It looks

great in this fjord blue. It is

also available in all 24 FERMOB colors.

I have shown the Luxembourg Kid

collection before but not the adorable

kids bistro chair. This could be a great

and fun display piece. Especially if

you don't have a lot of space.

Another nice addition to the line is

the Latitude chair made with

the Outdoor Technical Fabric (OTF).

Completely tearproof material from

100% polyester coated PVC.

This chair has many two tone

color combinations available.

It folds flat and has a very clean look.

Another treat was to meet some

of the people from the home office in France.

I was told I had to go to P.O.S.H

Thank you Helen, I am so glad I did.

In 1997 P.O.S.H. opened its doors in Chicago, determined to offer something unique to the consumer that was tired of the "sameness" that had crept into the marketplace of home and table decor. The small shop was met with a warm reception as the search for pieces that haven't been mass-produced for coast-to-coast consumption was shared by many.

"At some point in your life, you want something that is real!" That thought is what drives P.O.S.H. to search high and low for the items that stock its shelves - an eclectic assortment of vintage Hotel Silver, Restaurant China and Flea Market Finds. Found in such disparate places as old American china warehouses to the antique markets and auction houses of Europe, the items sold at here are often one-of-a-kind or limited in quantity. From a vintage silver plate Tea Service once used in an English Country Inn to a beautiful Water Pitcher from a Grand Hotel in New York, many of our pieces tell a romantic story of an age gone by.

My last store visit is to the gift

shop at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

I love all Museum gift stores but this

is one of my favorites. They always

have the most creative and different

things you don't see every where.

Great displays and lots of color.

on each of Noah's Ark animals.

I had to come to Chicago for the Casual

Outdoor Furniture show and decided

to come a day early and take a look

at some stores. My first stop

THE PAINTED LADY

chic place to fine hand-painted antique furniture pieces and accessories. From French provincial dining tables, apothecary jars, and vintage chandeliers to hand painted signs, original artwork and farmhouse finds.

Bedding is a big part of the store,

Beth carries all of the fine lines.

POM POM AT HOME and PINE CONE HILL

are well displayed.

If you want to do your dream

nursery this is where to com.

Next stop JAYSON HOME.

I would imagine that a great number

of you have been drooling over their

catalog for years just as I have.

The store did not disappoint.

There is a sophisticated and unique

blend of new and vintage.

I couldn't help thinking of the wall of

tea bags I showed you from

ROLLING GREEN when I saw

this line of strung vintage flatware.

It was fun to see this vintage 1900's

table from FERMOBUSA that

I now sell the new, but it is still

the same style. Classic never

goes out of style.

I didn't know they had a garden area

so this was a real treat.

NEW LAMPS FROM AIDAN GRAY

There are so many great lamp
introductions from AIDAN GRAY HOME
this season. I am happy to be able to show them here.

The Camac Lamp with the rich golds peering
through layers of dark antique rub creating this
beautiful floral arrangement.

The Jessica Lamp is sleek and sophisticated,

featuring a distressed natural wood candlestick

on a crystal base.

The popular Lochlan Fragment comes

to life as a table lamp. The beautiful

hand-carved fragment sits on

a iron base.

The Tate Lamps finish is like not other.

Full of layers upon layers of silver

leaf that have been distressed, stained

and aged to perfection.

Add a bit of French Quarter to any

room with this cast resin architectural

fragment Du Monde Lamp, in

an aged cement finish.

Resting on top a black metal base,

the Selma Lamp features flecks of

silver lead made to look 100 years old.

On the lower left side we have

the Fleurette Lamp with a floral

applique on a crystal base.

In the center is the the Peyton Lamp

featuring a fragment that embodies

intricate detailing with its hand carved nature.

hand-carved gold leaf leaves atop a square base.

This petite Chloe lamp features a

hand-carved wood fragment atop a

double-stacked crystal base.

The Cardinal lamp is made of

cast iron and has an undertone of

blue under the layers of flaking rust.

The Olympus Lamp is sold as a set

with a left and right facing. Gilded, carved

laurel leaves give these charming lamps

a sense of European sophistication

fit for nobility.

Under layers of creams and greys, you

will find flecks of beautiful bright blue

on this Bleu Fougere lamp.

The Clara Marie Lamp features a petite

joyful wood fragment reminiscent of

antique, carefully hand-carved millwork.

These next three lamps are part of the

Pink Campaign that I did a previous blog on.

They are meant to honor the many women

who have been taken from us due

to breast cancer.

The Eternal Flame Lamp,what this petite lamp

lacks in size it makes up with beauty.

In weathered shades of grey this

diminutive Espinal Lamp features

a beautiful wood fragment reminiscent

of a fossil.

architectural wood fragments that

are antiqued using greys and creams.

Visually massive in scale but elegant

nevertheless.

This found architectural fragment

turned lamp, is proudly displayed atop

two blocks of crystal. With layers of

chipped paint in hues of greys and

whites speckled with gold. This

petite Natalie Lamp will accent

I AM NOW REPRESENTING TOURANCE

TOURANCE is all about soft, sumptuous,

luscious and lavish. The line has three

different categories. Blankets, women's accessories and children's accessories. Everything comes in

a multitude of fabrics but what

they all have in common is that

soft heavenly touch and beautiful style.
All of the blankets come double sided
and everything in this line is made in the USA.

BLANKETS

are available in a regular throw size of

45" x 60", double size, queen and king size.

These larger sizes could also be used

as a gorgeous bed cover, or folded at the

end of the bed.

This is an example of the Rosette collection.

These come in either two tone like this

cream/camel

cream/chocolate

grey/black

cream/pink as well as four other combinations

all of these patterns are available in a

baby blanket as well as 10 solid colors,

burgundy, ivory, black and charcoal

When you are at a show and walking

I saw these irresistible scarves

that you just could not walk by

without wanting to touch and put one on.

They come in 12 different styles and

measure 7.5" wide by 90" long.

and I have to admit my most favorite

items is this adorable little jacket

done in the ivory sheep fabric.

When I got my samples I told my

husband I hope you like this because

you are going to see often this winter.

Rounding out the women's accessory

category are a full line of bathrobes.

CHILDREN'S ACCESSORIES

As I mentioned at the start, all of the

fabrics come as baby blankets plus

many styles that are only for the baby.

Hooded towels are cute and stylish and

are generous in size to be used from

birth to 4 or 5 years old.

The bib and burp cloth sets are made

with designer cotton outside and lined

with white chenille for absorbent and

yet soft. The prints selected are modern,

fun and vibrant.

And the finishing touch to any little ones

wardrobe we have the jacket with the

faux fur on both sides

I am very excited about this line as I

hope you will be. I think there is

something for almost everyone. It

brings richness at an affordable price.

ATLANTA-SCENTS AND FEEL

My two favorite colors, black and white. You might
say this is kind of boring, well not
if you look at the new introductions
from SCENTS AND FEEL.
They are rich and vibrant colors.
All of the fouta's which measure
38" x 78" come in a guest
towel size 20" x 28"

The versatility of these towels, throws,

wraps or whatever you decide to call

them is endless.

There is a new herringbone in black

with white stripes and a white fringe

and the reverse, I did a close up

so you could see how lush this looks.

The natural collection has been

updated with the addition of

the stripe on the left.

The same collection in the guest towels

The stripes are smaller in the guest towels

Grey is becoming a popular choice

in home decor and what we wear.

You can put any color with it and it pops.

Any of these could be added to the grey

collection, dusty rose and eggplant

mix well.

Fall with a little brightness to it.

I really like the combination of chartreuse

and turquoise

Beige has been added to the line and

it is a really nice beige, it has some

life to it. They also paired it

with black in this rustic honeycomb weave.

One of my favorite new introductions

is the Fouta with Gold accent.

These would be a beautiful throw

or large runner for the table.

They are 38" x 78".

There are also several new tablecloth

in Jacquard. This strip is 70" x 100".

It is subtle with a little burst of

chartreuse.

A little more elegant with the white

background with stripes of grey and

burgundy.

Another tablecloth that could also

be a bed cover or thrown over a sofa.

They have added some wonderful

scarves and shawls that I will

cover in a later blog. Let me know if you

When I started representing BARREVELD
13 years ago they were mostly garden and
glassware, now they have taken
over the entire house. I liked the
teaming of the Moroccan kilim with
the linen sofa. The warm earth tones
in the different patterns on the pillows
ottomans and rug do not fight with each other.

The leather union jack trunk doubles

as an end table.

Kilim and leather chest of drawers or

side table might be just the piece to

add some pattern to a room.

This tufted linen headboard is now available

in a king size along with the twin and queen.

I am particularly fond of this collection since

it pairs so well with AIDAN GRAY HOME

furniture and lighting and POM POM AT HOME

bedding.

I can see this lovely rocker sitting next

to a crib.

and a cute little pouf for your feet

a more ornate style of headboard in

the natural linen available in king and queen.

Do note the Giltwood architectural

mirrors in the background, the one

on the left is 45" x 55". The one

on the right is an impressive 75" x 46".

Here is a close up of the third style

measuring 62" x 30". The distressing

on these mirrors makes them look

authentic and not manufactured.

This is the contemporary division and

I like combining the two looks here.

A wood Trompe L'oeil console is

long and narrow.

There is always a nice selection of

this is just a sample of the many that

are available.

This iron and glass clock coffee

table is functional, I could see

this indoors or out on a covered

deck or porch.

A couple of large wall clocks that

are also functional have a deco look.

One in a aged white finish and the

other in aged brass.

Iron, wood , and glass console table

has a beautiful floral design.

ATLANTA-POMPOM AT HOME

Casual elegance helps define the new

table linens from POM POM AT HOME.

The OLIVIER is a nice mix of basic

items that would make a nice addition

to any table. Not too fancy for everyday use

but sophisticated enough for company.

Hilde has stayed with her signature white

and added the natural that is called bark.

It is a little different from the flax used in

the bedding collection. The flax is actually

a mix of white and bark.

There is a table runner that measures

19" x 68" and packaged as a pair.

This can be used on each end of a table

instead of 4 place mats.

On all of the items in this collection there

is a small frayed edge with a stitching about

an inch in from the edge. The napkins are

the very generous size of 20", which

covers the lap nicely and looks very ample

next to any size plate.

The tablecloths come in 3 sizes,

69" x 69" besides the obvious square

table this looks great on a small

round table. Also two rectangular sizes,

69" x 108" and 69" x 128". These should

fit most needs. Each of the items in

the tabletop collection will be tied

with the natural bark thread and

shrunk wrapped in plastic.

Cocktail napkins are the finishing touch

to the OLIVIER collection.

The other new tabletop collection is

the JULES shown on the right side of this picture.

Jules is offered in a table runner 19" x 68",

packaged in pairs like the Olivier.

The colors are white and a slate grey, each

with 3 stitches of the contracting color with

the frayed edge only on the two ends.

Napkins to match also 20 inches square.

Lastly in the tabletop category we have

the BON APPETIT napkins. What a

great wedding gift these would make.

These are done in the flax, which I

said before is the combination of

white and bark.

The POM POM throw that came out

last season was such a hit more

colors have been added.

Here it is in the original white shown

beautifully at the end of this bed.

Now we have fog, that pairs very well with

the flax bedding or makes a nice

contrast on white bedding.

cream pink and barely blue

I thought a fitting end to this post is

the lovely eye pillows, so named

by my friend and customer Billie who

has Imagine in Santa Barbara.

These are done in the flax organic fabric

on one side, with a little pouch to store them

with a very soft beautiful white satin on the other side.

I think we will be seeing other traveling

accessories in future introductions.

AIDAN GRAY HOME has become

a major supplier of lighting to the

home furnishing retailer. Great

style at affordable prices make for

a winning combination. This

post I will high light the

chandelier introductions for fall.
These three new pendants are
a different look, thinking outside
the box, for
AIDAN GRAY HOME,
but I think they mix well with the rest
of the line. The distressed gold
gives it an aged look elegant,
without being gaudy.

This smaller drum shape would

would work well in a guest bath, or

over a small accent table.

The Danielle

I love the name of this one,

Italian Wedding. It is very

large but not over bearing.

It has a real lightness about it.

This candlelier is part of the

Pink Campaign I told you about

in another post. A portion of the

profits go to cancer research.

This has a very romantic touch to it

and truly fits its name.

There is much to love in the new

introductions from
AIDAN GRAY HOME.

Not to over whelm you and to

get these to you in a timely manner

I am going to break them up in

categories.

Benches and ottomans is where

I will start. These are pieces

of furniture that can be placed

in a multitude of places. They

can be a major focal point, or an

accent piece. I think sometimes

it is hard to find that interesting

something for an entry or master bedroom,
or a small corner that needs something.

I think this is what Randal had in mind

when he designed the ETAN

bench with a hemp fabric on

the cushion and a burlap lattice

underneath. I think this could
fit into all of those places.

I like when furniture has a dual purpose

and this storage bench is just that

This was designed to be a ottoman,

bench and coffee table. Yes the cushion

is hard enough to use as a coffee table.

The fabric is a very rich chocolate brown

that is soft and wonderful to the touch.

Nice detail on the trim and the finish

you will recognize from some of the candlesticks.

The Davin Bench is medium size

with a nice high rattan end that is nice for leaning.

The cushion and side pillows are

in the hemp fabric in a natural color.

When you need something a little

larger, the Eames bench could be

the right piece.

I like the slated sides which keeps
it from looking heavy. Like
all the furniture introductions this
season it is in the same hemp fabric.

Like everything else with

Aidan Gray there is the attention to

detail and this has a distressed finish

that mixes well with antiques.

ATLANTA SHOW-SUGARBOO

I am in very hot Atlanta for the fall

gift/furniture show. At 8:00 p.m. it is 86 degrees. Another reason to love Southern Ca. it always cools down at night no matter how hot it is
in the day. But I didn't come here for the
weather, I came to see new product

and share it with my customers who didn't come.

I am starting at SUGARBOO DESIGNS.

I was pleased to see that they

have a wide range of new product.

This is the Hello series, all 14" x 18"
with the same color and materials of
the popular You Are My Sunshine piece.

Assembladge

is like a collage of portions of other pieces

that you might be familiar with

and it measures 36" x 48"

If you need to add a little color

might be just the thing

I think this metal heart is a sure

winner. The driftwood heart

has been but I think this one has

even broader appeal.

It measures approximately 24" x 18"

and extends about 9" from the wall

A cut out electrical light

that says You are My Sunshine

is a nice additional to the line

I am particularly fond of

this collection. They are

8" x 8" and are sold

individually but could be used

in a multitude of ways

Some you will recognize from

larger pieces. This collection

will be expanded in the future.

Really cute in a baby's room.

If you have the space this is a fun

way to show the new postcards.

It could be done just as effective

on a smaller scale.

The paper products have been

very good sellers. I am happy

that this has been expanded.

It makes a nice little pick up item.

I thought this was a nice way to

show the pillows. No new styles

but there are lots to choice from.

AIDAN GRAY HOME PINK CAMPAIGN

Last year Randal Weeks, the owner of

AIDAN GRAY HOME lost his mother to

Breast Cancer. She was a 20 year

survivor when this terrible disease

attacked her again. This time no matter

how hard she fought it she lost the battle.

He speaks of her

with such heart felt devotion.

"She was an amazing mother, an amazing

woman and a huge inspiration to those who

watched her wage the battle of a lifetime.

She has always been my biggest inspiration.

She was my number one fan and she is

irreplaceable."

To honor his mother, and in her memory

he wants to raise money to help with

research and help other women who need

a fighting chance against this insidious disease.

He has put together the

AGH PINK CAMPAIGN

and has launched a collection of

distinct products for fall introduction.

50% of the proceeds of the sales

will be donated to charities in the

fight against breast cancer.

I am very proud of Randal for taking

this step and look forward

to helping him reach his goal.

The lamps all have a pink band on the

inside bottom trim of the shade, so

when you see them, they look normal,

but glance up into the shade, the subtle

reminder is there. I think this is the first

collection of home products that is not overtly pink

and is designed for the everyday home.

The chandelier has pink in the gold drops,

just enough to break through the gold leaf

and shine when focused on.

Each product will have a beautiful hang

tag with a picture of Randals mother

on one side and the message on the other.

There is also going to be advertising in

both consumer

and trade publications

I am looking forward to the Atlanta Gift

show, which is just around the corner,

to see all of these products in person.

Along with the POP ART piece of

Marlene Weeks that will be

the focal point of the show.
